  • how the hell would I say I make $150k/yr

There is a place here with a $70 steak, I’m tempted to try it one day

That’s a good point, but it’s still 2.5x the median income for the area I live.

These are red flags that will ruin your chances and if you are acting differently towards women, stop acting and just stop trying to humble brag about your income. It’s a lot easier to not try to trick people

  • Does any power or water or sewage systems come from the Canadian side? If so, they should be cut off. Not to mention, a fence should be constructed inside to block off American illegals from crossing into Canada. Even better, put a border check point there.

The library will already be ruined. A large part of it is in Canada and is now blocked to Canadians.

You know this isn’t about the fucking library right?

You can’t be this stupid. Am I arguing with an actual goldfish right now? Do you instantly forget what you wrote?

All I hear is, “I’m doing things that have literally no effect, so I’ll keep doing them so I can feel like I’ve done my part.”

Yeah I’m doing a hell of a lot more to stop fascism than you bitching on the internet making your country look bad and trying to make it look worse.

I’m sure you can sleep fine at night, while millions of people who until 6 months ago were your friends and allies are terrified that your country will destroy us.

Suggesting that destroying a library is a bad thing makes be culpable of the rise of fascism despite making efforts to resist it. But you doing, I suspect, a lot less somehow absolves you of blame? Are you sure you’re thinking straight here?

But by all means, let’s worry about a library.

You mean the entire point of this post and thread??? Yes that’s what we’re doing. That’s the topic of the conversation. Welcome to reason we’re typing right now. It’s so weird it took you this long to… not realize what we’re talking about still? Do you think you stopped talking about when you said:

And you think I give two shits about who uses that fucking library? Resistance at every point, at every opportunity. No inch, no quarter must be given.

Cause “no inch, no quarter” sure seems like you’re referencing the library, cause you know, it’s several inches. This is just baffling , if you don’t think we’re talking about the library still you might actually qualify as illiterate at this point.

  • You just keep doing nothing while the fascists destroy your country

Oh cool I’m doing nothing I guess, here I thought I was voting against, protesting against, donating against the rise of fascism but I guess some Canadian who doesn’t want people reading knows me better than that. Stopping low income families from learning in a blue state sure is gonna break Trump down. I mean shit that state is turning out fascists like Bernie Sanders with all it’s public libraries. Better make sure they don’t learn or be exposed to other perspectives through literature. That’ll make them straight maga! Boy do I have egg on my face! You sure taught me something today and it’s definitely not that Canadians can be just as ignorant as Americans!

You should maybe spend more time in a library yourself

  • No inch, no quarter must be given.

Whoa gotta be careful not to get cut on that edge.

how can you see with your head that far up your own ass?

I’m sitting here in 1937 Poland

You don’t hear yourself do you? This is so cringey and sad. Get over yourself. This is a library not the invasion of Poland. This is such a weird weird attempt at making a point and failing so miserably. Showing good will is a good pr move when it costs you so little and doesn’t help your opposition. Being a spiteful little dick makes you seem like you need serious help and to go outside

  • I was specifically responding to this person’s sense of astonishment

    By avoiding COL?

it’s cruel and harmful for folks to feel the way that commenter felt

And why is COL going to make people feel anything but better as an explanation? You’re talking about “ugly things” too. You’re stepping around something, I assume inequity, but I don’t see how that is supposed to make anyone feel better than a pretty neutral COL. You make more but you spend more in those areas. That doesn’t seem ugly to me?

We go through these versions of life and think they are normal

I genuinely don’t know what point you’re trying to make. Are you saying different costs of living are inherently bad or inequality is bad? The latter makes sense but doesn’t make sense with your previous statement. It just feels like you’re doing the opposite of comforting the commenter’s feelings, it seems you’re trying to apply an interpretation with a very negative connotation when a much more reasonable, simpler, fitting one exists. Like do you think the screenshot is the uber wealthy bragging about how much they spend or someone complaining about the cost?

I mean yes? I feel like there’s an implication that you never quite said that the quality of life for people that are paying that much for child care is better and that’s just not true. I was living far better in a cheap area making far less than I am now in the bay area. This is just the cost of living here. There’s absurdly wealthy people here and there’s, compatible to the median, absurdly wealthy people in rural areas. This price does not mean they’re living in luxury, this can easily be them scraping by. This is literally the cost of child care for the middle class in the highest cost markets in the US.
