Here is the original study. He shows that on certain issues of governance, the far right and far left are more similar than the center.

He also cherrypicks 7 data points out of hundreds (from 2008-2014) to support his conclusion. He provides no criteria for inclusion of these particular data points.

The authors of this article (found here) also equate Joe Biden with centrism, providing no evidence. Would he really rate his views as a “5” or “6” on a scale from 1-10, as these authors suggest? I doubt it, but like the authors of this article, I simply do not know.

Using another metric of his positions suggests that he would be around a 2, making it irrelevant to this study, which focuses on only 5-6.

I’ll stop here because this comment is already better researched that the article in the meme.

  • Not sure what you mean.

The Democrats did work on student loans. Biden forgave millions of loans and the Republican Congress overturned it in the Conservative courts. So he capped repayment for most borrowers (I’ve verified with my own loan that the lower rates are still active), and placed almost all loans in forbearance. It was the closest thing to forgiveness that was legally achievable.

Then leftists decided he was too old to be re-elected. Harris promised to continue the fight, as well as advance other progressive causes like criminal justice reform, federal decriminalization of marijuana, etc. We all know what happened there.

    Let’s not rewrite history here.

  • BAC is also well correlated with impairment. Obviously it varies from one individual to another, but it is related strongly related enough to have fair and consistent enforcement.

AFAIK, blood tests that measure the presence of marijuana are relatively cheap, but measuring the concentration is slightly more difficult and is not well correlated with impairment. That means enforcement is problematic and subjective.

  • Having lived in both, absolutely legalize.

I don’t personally care for it and I get annoyed by the public smells, the tacky and run-down stores that make neighborhoods feel trashy. But that’s all personal preference.

The one legitimate issue is that it is very difficult to regulate and enforce impairment. Someone driving or operating machinery high is just as dangerous as someone driving drunk. With alcohol, there are a number of different tests and impairment is well correlated with BAC. For marijuana, there is no quick and accurate way to assess how high someone is at a given time.
